In the world of Indian television, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah had been a beloved show for years, and one of its most recognizable faces was Shailesh Lodha, affectionately known as Taarak Mehta. However, in April 2022, Lodha decided to bid adieu to the show, leaving fans and the media speculating about his sudden departure. Now, in a candid interview with Lallantop, Shailesh Lodha has finally shed light on the reason behind his exit.
Shailesh Lodha Reveals Why He Quit Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah
It all began when Lodha was invited to participate in the stand-up show Good Night India on SAB TV as a celebrity guest. He eagerly accepted the opportunity, considering it a chance to showcase his skills as a poet. However, a day before the telecast, he received an unexpected and uncivil phone call from the producer of TMKOC, Asit Modi, questioning his appearance on the other show. Lodha emphasized that his identity as a poet was significant to him, and he had appeared on “Good Night India” as himself, not as a character from a fiction show. Therefore, he couldn’t comprehend why the show’s producer had an issue with it.
Speaking about his previous encounters with Asit Modi, Lodha recalled confronting the producer over his use of derogatory language, where Modi had referred to everyone on the show as his “servants.” This disrespect was something Lodha couldn’t tolerate any longer. Consequently, he made the tough decision to part ways with the show and officially communicated this via email on February 17, 2022. Despite his decision to quit, Lodha continued to shoot for the show out of consideration for the creators, understanding that they needed time to wrap up his character’s storyline. However, it was during this period that he faced further challenges. Lodha claimed that his payments were being withheld, and Asit Modi asked him to sign papers, which Lodha found unappealing and restrictive. These issues eventually led Lodha to involve the court, resulting in a settlement.
