Actress Niju Machhan, currently portraying Gurpreet in Zee TV’s Kundali Bhagya, shared her plans for the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras. Embracing the tradition of purchasing new items for good luck and prosperity, Niju expressed her excitement for the five-day festivities culminating with Bhai Dooj on November 15, post-Diwali.
Traditionally, Dhanteras involves buying gold, silver, and utensils to invite positive energy. Niju, echoing this sentiment, revealed her intention to purchase a gold and diamond ring for herself and a gold bracelet for her daughter. She humorously mentioned her husband’s belief in keeping ‘Ghar ki Lakshmi’ happy, making it a family shopping day.
In addition to shopping, Niju highlighted the customary rituals observed on Dhanteras. Cleaning the house, decorating the entrance with rangoli, lighting lamps and diyas, and performing a special evening puja are integral to the celebration. Purchases made on this day are placed in the temple as an offering.
Niju’s day extends to preparing traditional sweets as an offering (bhog) for Goddess Lakshmi and Dhanvantari. The festivities conclude with a joyous family meal and warm greetings to loved ones.
On the professional front, Niju is recognized for her role in the popular Sony SAB sitcom, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, alongside lead actor Dilip Joshi. Her impressive performances in Doordarshan shows like Mumtaaz Mahel, Munidhaar, Kahani Meri Maati Ki, Saahiba Mirz, and Tum bin jiya jaye na have endeared her to audiences. As she embraces the spirit of Dhanteras, Niju Machhan combines tradition, family, and professional success in her celebratory plans.
