Over the past few years, many actors have stood up and spoken about the unfair pay parity among the actors based on their gender. Here're the celebs who raised their voice against the unfair.

Tapsee Pannu spoke about this existing disparity. You would think a top rated actor like her wouldn't face any discrimination, right? Wrong.

“If a female actor asks more, she is termed difficult & problematic and if a man asks more it’s a mark of his success. Difference is, the men who started with me earn 3-5 times more than what I do. And the gap keeps increasing as we go in the higher star category.”

Kangana Ranaut is fierce and bold who never shies to open up about her views publicly. How can she not talk about wage disparity?

“I have heard some successful actresses saying that they don’t deserve equal pay as their male colleagues because the latter get big openings, but I believe if you won’t feel empowered yourself then no film or person can make you feel empowered. You have to feel like an equal. You should tell yourself that you don’t have any shortcomings.”

Deepika turned down the offer of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next Baiju Bawra because she was not getting the equal pay as male lead.

“I know my track record and what I’m worth. I don’t think I’ll be able to live with the thought knowing that I have been a part of a film, had the same creative contribution or bringing the same value to a film, but being underpaid.”

Kriti said that your remuneration should be proportional to the amount of audience that you are able to pull into the theatre by yourself.

“I kind of feel that as much as it is unfair, the difference is not the problem, the difference is a lot and that’s the problem. My point is that a man doesn’t have to do it by doing a male-centric film, but sometimes a female has to prove it by doing a female-centric film and say that this is the audience that she has pulled in."

Sonam spoke about how the pay gap was ridiculous but it was easy for her, because she enjoyed privileges that many don't.

“The pay gap is ridiculous. I can stand up to it, but then I don’t get those roles, and I’m okay with that. I can afford to do that. I realised over the past two or three years that I have no right to judge anybody. I’m privileged, so making difficult choices isn’t really f**king difficult." she tolf Mid-day.

"In the past too, I have made my stance on equality of genders clear. I strongly believe dues meted out should be according to merit and not gender. Both genders have their own plus and minus points, though I love the women who make work so beautiful."

"We as actors have never stopped any actress from earning more money than us. I've never asked my co-stars how much they are paid. It's a business and since a few years the protagonists have been actors, but it is changing. We are seeing a Raazi, Padmaavat, Veere Di Wedding being made and things will change," he said.

Katrina talked about the difference in treatment given to male-dominated movies versus female-dominated movies. She added how the latter will turn out to be if they are treated with the same stature and budget.

"My argument to that is, which I discuss with a lot of producers I’m close to and have worked with, give the female-dominated films, with maybe one or two female leads, the same budget and mounting that you are giving to the male stars or the combination of a male and a female star. Give that to a female film and see what happens then."
