The Family Man actor Sharad Kelkar says he’s receives threatening messages everyday from the show’s fans. The actor essays the role of Arvind, a colleague of Srikant’s wife Suchi.
Days after actor Darshan Kumar revealed that he was getting online hate for his role as the antagonist in the hit series, The Family Man, actor Sharad Kelkar has shared that he is facing the same issue. In the second season The Family Man, Kelkar plays the role of Arvind, a man who could be a possible love interest for Priyamani’s Suchi. Suchi is married to Srikant who is the lead character and is played by Manoj Bajpayee.
There is a running inside joke in the series that Suchi could be cheating on Srikant with Arvind in Lonavla. The cast and crew along with the directors have maintained total secrecy on the issue. Now, Kelkar is receiving hate messages and even death threats from people who cannot seem to perceive that The Family Man is a fictional show and that Srikant and Suchi are fictional characters portrayed by actors.
“I get these messages daily like ‘Srikant and Suchi ke beech mat aao, jaan se maar denge tumko’, and I get a lot of threats too. So, I have got used to it,” Kelkar told a leading entertainment portal while also opening up on what happened in Lonavla.
“The theory in the first season became so big that Arvind is Zulfiqar actually, for whom the mission was done, and now so many memes are being made every day, like when Arvind and Suchi were in Lonavala, Chellam sir was watching us, or when Srikant was in Chennai, me and Suchi were dancing on the beach. They are damn funny and so creative, and it’s going in the favour of the show,” he added.
Priyamani has also faced hate from fans for allegedly ‘cheating’ on Srikant. “I got a lot of hate after season two. Almost every day, whatever post I put out on social media, the first thing everybody says is, ‘you shouldn’t have betrayed Srikant’, ‘you shouldn’t have done this to Srikant’, ‘why did you stab Srikant in the back?’,” she said
Not only Sharad but Priyamani, too, has received hate from fans owing to the Suchi and Arvind subplot. Speaking with journalist Puja Talwar, Priyamani said, “I got a lot of hate after season two. Almost every day, whatever post I put out on social media, the first thing everybody says is, ‘you shouldn’t have betrayed Srikant’, ‘you shouldn’t have done this to Srikant’, ‘why did you stab Srikant in the back?’.”
She continued, “I laugh it off, but I feel like I must have done something right for them to comment like this. I also hear — and I don’t know if it is right or wrong — but I also hear that Suchi is one of the most hated characters in the web series world right now, post season two. I must have done something right for them to hate the character that much.”
Fans were hoping that The Family Man season 2 would unveil the suspense over the Lonavla mystery featuring Suchi and Aravind. However, creators Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK chose to keep it under the wraps. The creators believe that the audience should learn about the incident when Srikant learns about it.
Earlier, in an interview the 44-year-old actor, who made a successful transition from TV to films, said he wants producers to take a chance on him. “I am waiting for people to look at me… when will people see that I am also capable (enough)? I also want to take the burden (of a project) on my shoulders. On the series front, I haven’t signed anything. Hopefully, I will do a big OTT show,” Kelkar told PTI in an interview.
The actor said typecasting is common and producers are not entirely at fault as they have to think twice before putting their money into a project or an actor.
