The Narcotics Control Bureau has approached Bombay supreme court challenging the bail granted to Rhea Chakraborty.
In the latest update, the NCB has approached the HC seeking to cancel the bail granted to the Showik Chakraborty, and 9 others within the drug case by the Special NCB Court.
Rhea and Showik were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau under charges of procurement and consumption of medicine. Showik was accused of being a neighborhood of a trust and booked under the stringent sections 8 (c) r/w section 20 (b) (ii), 22, 27A, 28, 29 and 30 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
He was granted bail in December.
The NCB has sought cancellation of his bail on the grounds that there’s a financial investigation underway and alleged that Showik may attempt to eliminate properties which can nullify the aim of the investigation.
“It is further submitted that there are many absconding accused. The links of several accused with the Respondent No 2(Showik) also are being surfaced and thus even today the investigation goes on. because the case is of economic quantity and Respondent No 2 (Showik) is a component of this and also booked under 27 A of NDPS hence financial investigation is additionally happening. If the Respondent No 2 (Showik) is on bail he may dispose the properties and assets to nullify the aim of monetary Investigation. The Respondent No 2 (Showik) may help other suspects in absconding and manipulating and hampering investigation,” NCB’s petition reads.
The SC will hear NCB plea against grant of bail to actress Rhea Chakraborty in drugs related case on March 18, 2021.
