What is the whole hoopla about?
On August 17, actress Swara Bhaskar tweeted from her verified Twitter handle, comparing the country’s radical Hindutva with Taliban activities in Afghanistan. “We cant be okay with hindutva terror & be all shocked & devastated at taliban terror .. & we cant be chill with #taliban terror and then be all indignant about #hindutva terror (sic)! Our humanitarian & ethical values should not be based on the identity of the oppressor or oppressed.” Swara wrote.
Swara’s post snowballed into a controversy after it was retweeted by many. While some echoed similar thoughts, there were many others who voiced their protest in the comments.
Swara Bhasker’s opinions have often enraged people on social media and as soon as her tweet on Afghanistan went viral, #BoycottSwaraBhasker became a top trend.
