In 2018, Netflix had made the big announcement of live-action prequel series to Baahubali which will focus on the life of Sivagami. The series was said to be based on Anand Neelakantan’s novel ‘The Rise of Sivagami.’ The show was however placed on hold as Netflix wasn’t proud of the final results. it was later reported that the platform is planning to reenvision the project with a different cast.
Shooting for the Netflix project, Bahubali: Before The Beginning, had begun, and Mrunal Thakur was chosen to play the younger Sivagami. But as per a report by Bollywood Hungama, the film got scrapped mid-way. A source close to the project told the portal, “The makers were not happy with the way the film was shaping up. They shot almost 70% of the film and decided to scrap it completely as they didn’t want to compromise on the quality.”
As per the same report by the above-mentioned portal, the makers have found a replacement for Mrunal Thakur. As per their update, actress Wamiqa Gabbi has stepped into her shoes as Mrunal did not had enough dates to shoot whole thing again.
Season one among Baahubali: Before the beginning relies on Anand Neelakantan’s book the rise of Sivagami. consistent with the makers, the prequel series will capture “Queen Sivagami’s journey from a rebellious and vengeful girl to a wise and unequalled queen. Power, politics and intrigue find themselves juxtaposed against the increase of Mahishmati – from being a city-state to an empire.”
Baahubali: the beginning and Baahubali: the Conclusion released in theatres in 2016 and 2017, and therefore the latter even became the first Telugu film, dubbed in Hindi, to cross the 500 crore mark on the box-office. The franchise, which emerged as a monster commercial success, has attained a cult status over the years and is considered a visual masterpiece in Indian cinema.
Meanwhile, Dheeraj Dhoopar recently was seen in a music video with Hina Khan and was also seen in Naagin5. This certainly will be excellent news for his fans internationally to see him on an OTT release.
