Deepika Padukone has spoken about her family’s reaction to her work in Gehraiyaan and the character she played in the movie.
Shakun Batra’s much awaited domestic noir titled Gehraiyaan finally arrived on Amazon Prime Video earlier this month. While some felt the film was path breaking, others were not happy with the pace and storyline. However, most fans agreed on one point– Deepika Padukone delivered one of her most remarkable performances till date as Alisha.
Co-starring talented actors like Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday and Dhairya Karwa, the film follows the story of complex relationships, infidelity and also focuses on mental health. Well, Deepika recently opened up about her character and revealed how her family reacted to the film. Also Read: Bollywood Actors Who Hiked Their Fees Overnight Post A Film’s Success
In a chat with NDTV, Deepika shared how her family reviewed her performance as Alisha. She was quoted saying, “It was a little hard for them to digest what my character goes through. They have seen it so up, close, and personal with me. What they truly appreciated was my performance and also the way mental illness and mental health were depicted in the film, these were the two big takeaways. They were also proud of the way I pulled this off and there was also a little bit of how do you do this?” Fans would like to ask the actress the same question! Deepika also shared that she didn’t see her character Alisha as wrong or right, since the point of the film was not to dissect the characters. She explained that one does not need to agree with Alisha’s choices. Even Deepika did not, but she explained that as an actor one has to step out of the lens of judgment.
Well, even before the film had released, Ananya had shared that the team made the choice to observe their characters and relationships instead of judging them. Maybe that’s the reason why they were able to play the complex roles with such perfection.
