Popular Indian comedian Bharti Singh recently spoke out about the challenges she and many other artists have faced in the entertainment industry, particularly regarding their pay, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. In an interview with Hindustan Times, she candidly shared her thoughts on the evolving dynamics in the world of entertainment.
Singh, often referred to as the “comedy queen,” acknowledged that the pandemic had taken a toll on the budgets of shows across various industries. She stressed that while artists understand the financial strain, it’s essential for them to be compensated fairly for their work. She mentioned, “No artist would be fine if they are not paid what they deserve. Bharti Singh On Facing Fees Deduction Since COVID-19
One significant concern she raised was the demand for long working hours without adequate compensation. Singh mentioned that dedicating 26 days a month to a show, with insufficient pay, would force her to prioritize her family. She emphasized the need for fair payment for the time and effort artists invest in their work, as they often must leave their families behind for extended periods.
Despite these concerns, Bharti Singh also highlighted her professionalism and dedication to her craft, “I don’t say things like, ‘Main 1 lac leti thi, par ab 50 hazaar le rahi hu toh 6 ki jagah 3 jokes hi maarungi.” She mentioned that once she steps onto the stage, she puts aside thoughts of her pay or the duration of her performance. She expressed her willingness to entertain her audience and never complains about overtime, showcasing her commitment to delivering a great show.
