Pearl Puri was taken into custody on Saturday on charges of allegedly raping a minor girl. Vasai DCP Sanjay Kumar Patil has now opened up about the case.
Television industry was left in shock after Naagin fame Pearl Puri was taken into custody on Saturday on charges of allegedly raping a minor girl. The actor was reportedly arrested by Waliv and Mumbai police, and a case has been registered against him under Section 376 of the IPC & POCSO Act.
As soon as the news broke, many celebrities from the TV industry took to social media to support Puri. Actress Karisma Tanna even took to Instagram and shared a photo with the actor. Along with this, she claimed that Pearl has got bail. However, as per the latest report, the actor has been sent into 14-day judicial custody.
Now, Vasai DCP Sanjay Kumar Patil has opened up about the case. Without taking the name of the accused, he shared that the complaint was filed by the victim’s father at Versova police station. He added that the complaint was then transferred to Waliv police station where a case was registered under the POCSO Act.
The DCP went on to share that the victim’s statement has been taken by the police and a medical examination has also been conducted, adding that the accused has been arrested. He then shared that the victim’s mother used to work in the same serial in which the accused played the lead role, because of which the victim used to go on the sets.
The DCP also shared that the victim is 12 years old and the court has ordered judicial custody for the accused.
Pearl Puri, who has been a part of shows like Dil Ki Nazar Se Khoobsurat, Bepanah Pyaar and Brahmarakshas 2, among others, has not opened up about the controversy yet. Meanwhile, celebs including Ekta Kapoor, Nia Sharma, Krystle D’Souza, and Anita Hassanandani have come out in support of the actor.
Producer Ekta Kapoor too expressed her opinion on Instagram. “My opinion only comes from what the girl’s mother said to me last night & that is – Pearl is innocent …and it is very very sad if people are using various tactics to prove working mothers are unable to take care of their children, because there are predators on the set,(sic)” a part of her statement read.
Actors Anita Hassanandani, Krystle D’Souza, Nia Sharma, Surbhi Jyoti, Aly Goni among many others have backed the Naagin 3 actor in their social media posts.
